ART SHOW FRIDAY JULY 16th - July 31st! "Flood Works" By The Cumberland River Also Featuring works by Jack A. Coggins & Holly Carmichael The mighty Cumberland during our historic flood wrecking havoc and destruction throughout our city, changing the lives of so many of our neighbors also left behind a work of art. The river literally "painted" a canvas and left it at what remained of our local artist, Jack Coggins', home. We stopped him from throwing it away, because it is so unique and quite beautiful. Never dreaming that Jack would take ill with a rare disease called Guillian Barre syndrome that we believe came as a result of him being in the flood waters, as he escaped his home from the raging river. He was hospitalized for 47 days and will be in physical therapy for quite some time to come. This historic masterpiece has been restored, custom framed and will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, in an effort to help Jack with his medical bills. The auction is a silent one and bids will be accepted up through 2pm July 31st, 2010 . At this time the highest bidder will be contacted and posted here on this website. You may call in your bid to 615-361-1667, by email or by fax 615-361-1672. Contact Karen for more information 615-361-1667 All proceeds from the auction of "Flood Works" will go to Jack Coggins For those who wish to make a donation for Jack may do so by contributing to "Flood Relief in behalf of Jack Coggins" at any First Tennessee Bank Location. |
"Flood Works" is an abstract river mud painting. The canvas measures 20" x 24". The framed dimension is 24' x 28" and the depth is 2 7/8". The unique frame is 2" wide and made of wood. The frame is actually two frames creating a shadowbox effect. The front of the painting was sealed twice with Dulglaz to protect it. The oringinal stretcher bars were removed and the backside of backside of canvas was treated twice with a special neutralizer to clean and help prevent any acids, molds, and other harmful materials from progressing any further on the canvas. New stretcher bars were made and canvas was then framed. The glazing is acrylite, museum grade and scratch resistant. |
